The following post contains spoilers, so wait til you’ve seen the movie, as to not spoil it for yourself…
As the title suggests, this is the last of the X-Men trilogy, but if you’ve seen, you know they just have to put in hints for a sequel, in case some studio coughs up the cash later on down the line. My overall impression of the movie was … it made me sad. Magneto in the park, playing chess by himself?! That was so sad! I told Chris that it was like Geri’s Game, but not funny. Anyway. I thought there was a lot of pointless death and the dark Phoenix thing was “eh.” It sounded really cool at the end of X Men 2, but what happened in this one that was so cool? Jean Grey didn’t learn how to control herself, and she randomly tried to kill five or so people. Hmph. Cyclops showed up for about five seconds, and the other more seasoned X-Men were kind of pushed aside for the younger crowd. And, Mystique as a human? That is so unexciting. Angel had some potential, but really, character development was at an all time low.
What I also found kind of silly was all this talk about the “class 3″ versus “class 5″ mutants. I’ve never read the comics, but on the big screen it sounded hilarious. Sort of like a role playing game.
Did I mention a lot of meaningless death happened?
Overall, this is what one would expect from a summer blockbuster. There was one glitch in the special effects — when Magneto is moving the Golden Gate Bridge (he couldn’t find a better way?) it went from dusk to pitch-black-night in roughly 5 seconds. Anyway, I’ll have to say this makes me look forward to what Bryan Singer decided to work on instead of X-Men 3 — Superman Returns. My summer lineup has been rather disappointing thus far, and I don’t have high hopes for the Da Vinci code. The only saving grace for next month will be Cars. Pixar, don’t let me down.
After many years of saving and deliberation, I’ve finally bought myself a TV. My old TV was inherited from Mom and Dad — they gave it to me way back when they were moving to CA. I inherited the ViewSonic 20″ and I was on top of the world.
Of course, as time went on, I saw many other TVs much nicer than mine. The first that comes to mind was the one Keen bought my 4th year when we were roommates. He wouldn’t tell me back then how much it cost … then again, he actually had internships. So I decided when I finally started working I’d make the splurge for a nice shiny flat TV. It’s been 3 years but I finally did it! Hopefully it’ll be great. But it was very very E (expensive).
The Apple Store on 5th Avenue had it’s Grand Opening two days ago. Of course, there are many other Apple Stores across the nation but this one is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is really shiny. I just thought I’d put up some pictures of it (more info can be found on Apple’s website). I’ll have to remember to visit, next time I’m in New York City. Supposedly the plaza it is in has free Wi-Fi!
Hey everyone! This is just a brief post to say that I’ve uploaded some pictures! The link to the gallery can be found here: http://www.kathylin.dreamhosters.com/photos. Soon I’ll include it in some sitewide menu — sorry I’ve been lazy about that lately. Enjoy!
I was telling Spiff the other day I wish I still had my old Macintosh Performa, 6115CD. Why? He asked. “Geek cred” I said. The release of the new MacBook (not Pro) officially replaced the old iBooks. The market is clearly the young, hip students…the same market the iPod aims for. In one sentence, Apple says it all:
Introducing the superfast, blogging, podcasting, do-everything-out-of-the-box MacBook.
Who loves blogging and podcasting? Yes, geeks do but tweens and teens — they love it. Case and point: MySpace. The computer is shiny, small, glossy, and “cheap” (starting at $1099 — but really, you need ~$3000 for a good Apple laptop). Anyway, it has always been a little bit sad for me that the Apple community is no longer just eccentrics and loyalists, and is now populated but by preppies and stragglers that have finally decided to see the light.
Although part of me is happy Apple hasn’t gone out of business, part of of me is sad. It’s the end of an era.
